Formation of Bangladesh

On 16th Dec 1971 Bangladesh – formerly known as East Pakistan achieved independence after the war of 1971 and gained the status of an independent Nation.Partition of India resulted in the separation of India from north western as well as north eastern territory which became known as West Pakistan and East Pakistan. Due to political exclusion, ethnic and linguistic discrimination as well as economic depression led to the war of independence in 1971. Yahya Khan accepted Cease fire with India. Involvement of India resulted in the defeat of West Pakistan and the formation of Bangladesh.
The 1st Postage stamp with 10 paise value was issued to give recognition to this newly formed nation which features the map of the Bangladesh.
